In this section of the Transition to Medicare report, we invite you to explore trends in quality across different dimensions of care among individuals with diabetes as they first move into FFS Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans.
Below, we highlight some findings to get you started exploring this topic. You may access the measures using our interactive report to explore them further on your own.
Starter insight: Diabetes
HbA1c Control (<8%) and blood pressure control appear to decline in the year of initial transition to Medicare. Just over half of individuals age 65 and older have an HbA1c of less than 8% during the transition year, which may indicate a need to better reach patients during this important time.
Starter insight: Diabetes
Diabetic long- and short-term complications, along with other adverse outcomes, appear higher near the time of initial transition to Medicare and continue to rise slightly. Research is needed to better understand these trends.
