New research in BMJ explores the risk of developing long term conditions during the post-acute phase of COVID-19

New research from OptumLabs published in BMJ finds that 1 in 7 (14%) adults 65 or younger with COVID-19 developed at least 1 new condition that required medical care during the post-acute phase of illness (3 weeks after initial infection).
The team, led by Sarah Daugherty, found that although the risk of developing new conditions during the post-acute phase of illness increased with age, pre-existing conditions, and admission to hospital due to COVID-19, younger adults and those with no previous conditions were still at some increased risk.
